When the story of Sarah Fuller, a soccer star at Vanderbilt, debuting as the first female to play in a Power 5 football game came across my feed, I thought to myself, “hey, that’s pretty cool,” and went on with my day. Later that day, my 12-year-old son stopped me and told me how excited he was that Sarah Fuller was going to play in her first game. I agreed, and we both went on with our day.

It’s cool when people break barriers, especially those that shouldn’t exist in the first place, but this was hardly something to get overly emotional about. Vandy football is barely watchable, and kickers, while often responsible for the outcome of a game from a points perspective, are one-trick ponies in the grand scheme. So yes, it was an interesting storyline, but I didn’t go out of my way to talk about it or even watch it.

Vanderbilt lost the game by a zillion, and she never got an opportunity to kick a field goal or extra point, but she did get to kick off, and I think it’s pretty damn cool that she made some history.

But now, I’m fucking pissed. Apparently a bunch of incels decided to take a break from 4Chan and flood the Sports Center FB page with declarations of how small-minded they are. Take a look below:

I bet my life that this bunch of virgins would shit their pants if they had a 6’5” 220lbs defensive end walk by them on the street, let alone rush towards them on the field. No offense to football kickers, but most of them are guys that most definitely got their lunch money stolen, and you never see these sorts of comments directed at them. For reference, here’s the kicker from my team:

He’s 5’9″ 195lbs, and his nickname is McLovin. Like, the nerdy kid from Superbad. I’m sure he gets death threats when he misses a big kick, as all kickers do, but other than that, he’s beloved by fans.

Meanwhile, Sarah Fuller hadn’t even laced up her cleats, and the chode brigade was wishing violence and sexual assault upon her. This is not just the fault of the incredibly microscopic brains these dudes have, but also of their fathers and society as a whole. This is undoubtedly a learned behavior, encouraged even, and it needs to stop.

It needs to stop regarding Sarah Fuller or any of the other women that come after her to play a traditionally male sport. It needs to stop against female politicians who speak their minds, and it needs to stop as it pertains to all women who have had to endure the misogynistic rants of a basement-dwelling, Vienna-Sausage-toting shit stain.

I love football as much as the next person, but I couldn’t give two fucks what’s between the legs of the players on the field. If they can play, they should play. The rules of the game are not changing, and if she gets hit, so be it; it’s part of the game. She’ll dust herself off and be better for it on the next play, as all college athletes would do.

I am proud that my kid has grown up to understand the importance of women, and that inclusion is a good thing. I’m glad to know that he will work to build women up rather than hate on them for their accomplishments. So fuck all these haters.
