Granny Survives Dizzying Rescue, But You May Die Laughing At The Comments

In today’s edition of “Grannies Gone Wild,” a 74-year-old woman’s helicopter rescue took an unexpected twist or two. Actually, more like a hundred, give or take. According to ABC News, the woman was hiking Piestewa Peak in the Phoenix Mountain Reserve when she took a tumble. Turns out, it was to be the first of many.

As she was suffering from facial and head injuries, firefighters with the Phoenix Fire Department were dispatched to rescue her. It didn’t go quite as planned, as seen in the following video:

The video, which was posted online by Fox 10 Phoenix and has garnered over 12 million views, was captioned with what may well be the greatest understatement ever:

It was a bit of a bumpy ride this morning when firefighters say a 74-year-old woman had to be flown off of Piestewa Peak after she suffered an injury while hiking.

The bit of a bumpy ride began when rescuers started hoisting up the stretcher, causing it to spin out of control. Firefighters attempted to reduce the spinning by lowering the stretcher and slowly bringing it back up again, but to no avail. I can only imagine what they were saying at this point: “Hey Granny, Please keep your seatbelt tightly fastened; we seem to be experiencing a bit of turbulence.”

This poor woman.

During a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Capt. Bobby Dubnow of the Phoenix Fire Department was quick to reassure viewers that “the woman was secured safely in a bag and basket, which had multiple points of packaging.” The pilot, Paul Apolinar, went on to explain that a line that was supposed to help prevent the spinning didn’t prevent it (clearly) and the rotor wash from the helicopter caused the stretcher to windmill. Additionally, Fox 10 reported:

Officials did say the woman suffered no ill effects from the spin, aside from a bit of dizziness and nausea. No firefighters were injured during the rescue.

Whew, WHAT A RELIEF. The firefighters are OKAY. Because that’s who we were all worried about, obviously.

Commenters on the Facebook post had a lot of thoughts about just how this rescue went down. And those poor rescuers.

“No firefighters were injured.” Oh, excellent. That was my first thought when I saw granny pulling 6 g’s in a wire basket—are those rescuers OK?”

“no firefighters were injured during rescue” not but that poor woman will now have the spins for the rest of her life! That’s just crazy!”

“No firefighters were injured during the rescue.” Is she ok though? She became one with the helicopter.

Omg Her injuries were not life threatening until the helicopter arrived

Good Lord I hope she survived the rescue

And then she suffered a heart attack from the rescue

Of course, some people would have rather up and died on that mountain top:

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF RESCUE IS THAT  I WOULD RATHER STAY ON THE GROUND AND DIE THERE

Omg what kind of rescue was that omg I rather just trying walking then died spinning under the helicopter I would have puke all over them instead

If I’m ever on a hike and break a leg, and i see that helicopter coming.. Im going to scream for help from the resucuers lol

The good news is she’s ready to join NASA:

I think she has reached the qualifications for space force.

In other news, 74 year old woman unwillingly passes NASA’s G-force test

Any faster and she would have ripped a hole in space time continuum

When did they start installing 74 year olds as helicopter rotors on the under side?

The bad news is she probably didn’t want to train for NASA in the first place:

This should be a new ride at the Arizona State Fair this year. I feel sorry for someone’s grandma 👵🏻 out there fidget spinning from a helicopter. 🚁

Paw 🐾 patrol would have done a better job. 🤷🏿‍♂️ #whograndsisthis#imsorrygrandma

They found her dentures in Tuscon

She’s about three inches taller now.

And then there was the spinning. So.Much.Spinning.:

My soul would have gone to the great beyond with all that spinning! 🙃😕

She’s doing her best impression of the helicopter.

You watch this upside down she’s rescuing the helicopter

*in BBC narrator voice: “Now watch as the mother helicopter teaches its young how to fly for the first time”.”

“You spin me right round, baby Right round like a record, baby Right round round round You spin me right round, baby Right round like a record, baby Right round round round”

Legend has it she spun so fast she became her own helicopter and flew herself to the hospital

Could of dropped her on the ground and she would of taken off like a beyblade 😂

Look, we’re not monsters. Obviously we feel bad about laughing. So very very bad.

What hospital was she transported to? I would like to send flowers because I feel so bad for laughing. It’s not funny, but I can’t help but laugh

Edit: upon watching a second time, my wife laughed so hard she farted, caused as much turbulence as the helicopter

There is something seriously wrong with me that I find this video HILARIOUS. God bless that woman I hope she didn’t sustain more injury due to severe whip lash!

I consider myself a kind loving and compassionate person but there must be evil in me bc I can’t stop laughing here

I shouldn’t be laughing……oh god I’m in tears!

All I can say is good job boys, the main thing is she survived  and I cant stop 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

In all seriousness, we are so happy Granny is going to be okay. She may just need a few days to unwind.
