Why Some Parents Are Dating Their Nannies

Parents are speed dating their nannies and babysitters

Parents are opting to date their children’s nannies and babysitters, but not for reasons you’d suspect.

A parent’s list of people they trust to watch their kids while they’re away is usually short, and that list only gets shorter the more we hear about caretakers abusing helpless children at daycares and even their own homes. This sucks for parents who are experiencing burnout and just need a drink – I mean, break.

Websites like Care.com serve as an online Yelp/Craigslist without the fear of being murdered by whoever shows up at your doorstep – or even worse, discovering that they chew with their mouth flaps open – but you still aren’t 100% sure if the person you’re inviting into your home is the person their profile would lead you to believe. Enter Aussie pals Millie Zinner and Alice Pritchard-Davies of Sydney, creators of the Motherhood app.

Zinner and Pritchard-Davies saw a need for an app that could help connect tired and stressed out parents with legit caretakers when their friends started popping out babies.

The Motherhood app is being described by some as “Tinder for parents and Uber for nannies.” But the awesome doesn’t stop there. The Motherhood app founder duo made interviewing potential babysitters one thousand times more hip and fun by hosting the first ever speed-dating event for parents and caretakers. Parents like former Cosmopolitan and Dolly editor-in-chief Bronwyn Mccahon and Justin Fischer from Married At First Sight left the event raving.

“I’m here because I need some help finding local babysitters. I’m a single dad and I travel a lot for work so I have a little girl who needs looking after. It’s nice because I can go out for dinner, or on a date and not feel stressed…maybe even find a wife.” – Justin Fischer.

“It’s been about 20 years since I did speed dating and it was a very different picture back then, but this is great, I can walk away with five to six names that I’ve connected with, it straight away takes the pressure off opening the door that first time to a stranger and thinking, maybe not!” – Bronwyn Mccahon.

It’s like traditional dating, only without the cheesy pickup lines and awkward bedroom eyes while Frank Zappa’s shitty doppelganger tries to force-feed you raw oysters. Imagine bringing someone home who cooks dinner, cleans your home, pretends to like your kids, and isn’t even doing it all for the nookie!

Ooh, you’re gonna clean that organic spaghetti sauce off my kid’s face? I’m so turned on right now I could bake brownies with the heat rising from my undercarriage.

If you want in on this action, you can show interest in a speed-dating event like this in your area by going to motherhoodapp.com.
