Toddler Uses Manners in Public, Given Key to the City

While out having a family meal at the local Applebee’s, 2-year-old Samuel Morton said both “please” and “thank you” to the server who delivered his french fries. Locals in the restaurant overheard and quickly news spread of the toddler’s good deeds.

“This kind of contribution from a toddler is just unprecedented for our city. We knew we had to find a way to honor this fine young gentleman for his valiant efforts to give back to his community,” stated Mayor Richard Simpson.

Samuel’s parents, Patricia and Chad, were asked how they raised such a model citizen. “I usually tell him right away to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you,’ but I was on my fourth margarita and stopped noticing. All of a sudden he just said it without me even asking,” said Patricia Morton. Chad Morton added, “I’m guessing he must have picked it up from Daniel Tiger or something.”

Samuel is in his Sunday best standing proudly on the city hall steps. Mayor Simpson speaks briefly about Samuel’s accomplishments and bends down to offer him the shiny gold key. Samuel looks to his parents. Mrs. Morton whispers into his ear. “Thank you,” says Samuel with a big smile. “Mom, can I have my ice cream now?”
