Girl Scouts Set Up Cookie Shop at Weed Dispensary and Sell 100s of Boxes

Forget four seasons. There is only one season that really matters, and it is FINALLY upon us. Girl Scout Cookie season is in full swing, and the future leaders of our country? Are taking their cookies to the streets.

In what can only be described as a genius business move, a troop of Girl Scouts partnered with Dispensary 33, a medical and recreational Cannabis store in Chicago, Ill. over the weekend. The young entrepreneurs (and someday millionaires) set up a stand just outside the front doors.

Dispensary 33 shared a short video of the event on Twitter, and captioned it with the following:

Reporting to you live at Dispensary 33. We have Girl Scout cookies!! And not just the cannabis kind😩😩 Support your local Girl Scouts with us 🍪🌿.

Dispensary 33 is clearly a fan. They even sell a strain of marijuana called “Girl Scout Cookie,” which they describe on their website as a more “sedative experience”:

This particular phenotype generally lends itself to “body melt” and a more sedative experience with cerebral qualities often described as “spacey.”  Notes of pine and earth prevail.

And while the OG Girl Scout cookies don’t come infused with cannabis (yet), they ARE addictive. Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties, I’m looking at you. And they obviously appealed to the Dispensary 33 crowd. Their marketing and outreach manager, Abigail Watkins, said their customers loved it, as did the staff.

The response was incredibly positive. People were so excited… our customers loved it, our staff loved it.

It was so popular, in fact, that the Girl Scout cookie pop-up shop will be outside the dispensary every weekend for the entire month of February. So if you happen to be in the area, head on over.

As for the girls? They ended up selling 230 boxes of cookies in just 4 hours. For anyone who has known the agony of trying to peddle cookies to everyone you know, including your great-aunt’s second cousin twice removed, this was a huge win for them too.

This marketing strategy isn’t new. Girl Scouts have employed it in other states where marijuana is legal as well. States such as Colorado, California, and Washington. And while Girl Scouts in these states have had their hash hustle shut down, it doesn’t seem like this will be the case in Illinois. The local Chicago council approved the location and fully supports its Scouts selling there.

Regional Girl Scouts spokeswoman Britney Bouie told NBC Chicago:

It’s really great to see these very entrepreneurial girls getting out there in the community. We allow it as long as it’s approved by the parents and the troop leaders.

So for now? People can curb their cravings for cookies and cannabis in one convenient stop.

Girl Scouts is all about creating great leaders for the future. Their mandate, according to their website, is to empower girls to become go-getters, innovators, risk-takers, and leaders.

And I’d say that these Chicago troop girls? Are well on their way.
