Actor Receives Nobel Peace Prize for Acknowledging That Parenting Is Hard

The 2016 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to John Krasinski, known for his role as Jim on NBC’s The Office, for his recent commentary on the trials and tribulations of parenthood.

The Nobel committee made its announcement in Oslo earlier today. This award came as a surprise to many, as Chris Hemsworth, who was nominated earlier this year after baking a birthday cake for his daughter, was thought to be the most likely recipient.

The announcement came after an in-depth TOMORROW Show interview, where Krasinski talked about his role as a father of two children:

“I think you realize first and foremost how it’s really hard to be a great parent and you’re just trying. There’s no perfection. There’s no school. There’s no defined way to go about it; you’re just learning. Just trying and learning. And learning is really hard,” said Krasinski, as the small studio audience stood to applaud.

“I think the biggest question I have is: ‘What did I do with my life before this?’ Was I just the dude who ate potato chips and watched movies all day? Did I ever know or care what a Hatchimal was? Where was I going with this? What I’m saying is: it’s HARD. No one warned me how hard it would be,” he said, as the reporter who interviewed him held back tears.

Since welcoming daughters Hazel, 2, and Violet, 6 months, with some adorable British woman, Krasinski said his life has changed “in every way, completely and totally, like completely changed AF.” By this point, the entire camera crew on the TOMORROW Show was nodding along and openly weeping.

The Nobel committee noted in its statement that it had awarded Krasinski the prize for “his resolute efforts to bring attention to the difficulties of parenthood: work that has cost the sleep of millions worldwide.”

“The award should also be seen as a tribute to Caucasian celebrity fathers everywhere who, despite great hardships and abuses, have not given up hope,” they added.

When Krasinski was asked if he really thought he was the most deserving of such a prestigious award, he turned to our camera, tilted his head, smirked, and slightly shrugged his shoulders.
