Text Program Helps Kids In Need Find Free Meals This Summer

Summer is upon us and the kids are out of school. Can I get a HALLELUJAH!?

While many of us are more than happy to trade homework for lazy days in the sun, there are some kids who will miss the consistency and structure of the classroom, or even the lunch room.

If you’ve never been a hungry child or a parent struggling to make ends meet, you’ve probably never thought much about school lunches or missed them when the school year ended. But for some children, school lunch is their only meal each day, and when that bell rings for the last time in May or June, they are left wondering where their next meal will come from.

There is no reason anyone should go hungry, whether school is in session or not. Fortunately, there is an awesome program aimed to help kids who may otherwise go hungry. This free service is for school-aged children in need of a free meal.

Just text “FOOD” to 877877 and you will receive a message requesting your zip code. Once you provide your zip code, you will be sent a list with the nearest location(s) serving free breakfast and lunch. No obligations, no questions asked.

And the best part? It really works.

Be sure to pass this information on, as you never know who is in need.
