RECALL: Baby Carriers Due to Fall Hazard

RECALL: Baby Carriers Due to Fall Hazard

Twin Go has issued a recall of its baby carriers due to the risk of a fall hazard for users whose products malfunction. It appears that some of the waist buckles on the carriers are prone to breakage, which could result in dangerous falls for babies inside the carriers.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission:

The Twin Go Original Carrier is an infant carrier designed to carry one or two babies against the caregiver’s body at the waist. It is intended for babies that are from 10 to 45 pounds.  “Twin Go” is printed on a label located on the front of the carrier and an 11-digit batch number is printed on a label sewn to the waistband. Batch numbers included in this recall: 23014024003, 01515026003, and 21615019001. They were sold in fabric that is black on the outside and blue or orange on the inside.

There have been a total of 13 reported product malfunctions, with 10 of those occurring in the United States, 1 occurring in Canada, and 2 occurring in the United Kingdom. Thankfully, there have not yet been reports of any injuries in conjunction with the faulty carriers.

The CPSC estimates that about 4,000 units of the product have been sold between December 2014 and May 2016 at stores such as Amazon, TwinGoCarrier.com, and various boutiques nationwide. The carriers retail for about $215.

Twin Go urges parents to stop using the carriers immediately and to contact the company for a free repair kit complete with assembly instructions. The company has also produced an online repair video for consumers.

To order the free repair kit, parents should contact Twin Go “toll-free at 888-288-9342 from 9am-5pm EST Monday-Friday, via email at [email protected] or online at www.TwinGoCarrier.com and click on ‘Product Recall’ at the bottom of the page for more information.”

Though I’ve never personally been able to use carriers such as these because of my chronic back condition, I know a lot of parents do. Be sure to check the manufacturer of your infant carrier if you’re one of those parents, and if your carrier matches the product description above, contact the company immediately to avoid the possibility of accidental injury.
