Bill Nye Is Back and Ready to ‘Save the World’

By Joanna McClanahan of Ramblin’ Mama

“Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill Nye the Science Guy.”

If you don’t know what that’s from, then you didn’t grow up during the 90s, when Bill Nye hosted a show that made science fun for kids. And he’s been advocating for all-things science since.

To know Bill is to love Bill and, in an age of “alternative facts” and climate-change denial, we couldn’t be happier to have him back. His new Netflix original show, ‘Bill Nye Saves the World,’ will premiere April 21 (the day before Earth Day):

According to the Netflix press release, “Each episode will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.”

The show is not a response to last year’s election (they finished shooting last October). However, it’s no secret that Nye’s views on things like climate change and reproductive rights clash with the Republican party. Regardless of the current administration, Nye says he remains optimistic about the future:

“You’re not going to solve global problems or address global issues without being optimistic. If you don’t think you can do anything about it, you won’t,” Nye told the New York Times. “As good as it might make us feel to call other people names, it’s probably not in our medium, or long-term interest. Optimism may be counter to divisiveness.”

Thanks, Bill, for being so awesome. We’re looking forward to binge-watching it, and hopefully it will help make America smart again.
