Pepsi and Kendall Jenner actually have a lot in common. Pepsi is the soda you reluctantly accept when Coke isn’t available, and Kendall is the Jenner you book when Kylie is busy selling lip kits. And as of this morning, America hates them both.
I have to imagine that Pepsi’s new tone-deaf commercial was an attempt to channel that “Buy the world a Coke” vibe that worked so well for Coca Cola in the 1970s and 80s. Unfortunately, Pepsi missed the mark. Badly.
Pepsi isn’t selling us on world peace so much as peddling white privilege, and we’re already stocked up.
The only bright side to a commercial that qualifies as a hate crime is that the Twitterverse wasted no time in smacking down the whole affair. (Laugh now, cry later.)
