Want to Help Puerto Ricans in the Aftermath of Maria? Here’s How

I can’t even believe I have to say this, but in the wake of our President’s irresponsible tweets this morning, it seems like it’s just another day in the life of this administration.

Puerto Ricans are suffering following Hurricane Maria. SUFFERING. And whatever your political beliefs, I hope we can all agree that the imminent death of fellow Americans is not a political bargaining chip, nor an acceptable pawn in a play to save a solitary man’s precious ego (that solitary man being the clown posing as the President of the United States).

This morning, the so-called President went on a Twitter crusade against the people of Puerto Rico and the mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulín Cruz, after she delivered a heart-wrenching plea for help:

The President, in all his class and grace, had this to say:

The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump. Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort.

This, after clarifying for the over half of America who is too stupid to realize Puerto Rico is a US territory that it is, in fact, just that, saying it is “an island surrounded by big water — ocean water.”

How profound.

Jesus Fucking Christ. I mean, seriously. This is the leader of the United States. And he’s criticizing a group of people literally dying due to poor aid and inadequate relief.

Clearly, it’s up to us to help the people of Puerto Rico, because our government sure as hell isn’t going to. Which is why this PBS list of organizations willing to help citizens — organizations in need of donations — is a godsend.

If you can “spare a square,” as it were (Seinfeld reference, anyone?) for the people of Puerto Rico, please do.

And if you’re still supporting this joke of a President, take your moral compass in for a tune-up. It’s seriously out of alignment.
