In today’s breaking (and obviously important) news, it would appear that millions of UNO players have been playing the game wrong. Or maybe it’s just me.
The card game at the forefront of family game night for the past 48 years released a statement on Twitter reminding people that stacking is against the rules.
If someone puts down a +4 card, you must draw 4 and your turn is skipped. You can’t put down a +2 to make the next person Draw 6. We know you’ve tried it. #UNO pic.twitter.com/wOegca4r0h

That’s right, people. “If someone puts down a +4 card, you must draw 4 and your turn is skipped. You can’t put down a +2 to make the next person Draw 6.”
OMG, what is even happening here?

Denial is the first stage of grief. Followed by anger. So much anger.
You don’t know how to play the game right

Even Footlocker got in on the debate:
[adsanity id=”35665″ align=”aligncenter”/]Dear Uno,
That’s not even how Uno is played.

It’s true. That’s not how the game is played, UNO. The masses have spoken. It’s a no. A thousand nos.
Look, UNO, how else is a person going to annihilate their opponents and achieve game domination? I may not be an expert, but I’ve played hundreds of games of UNO. Literally hundreds. And it’s ALL about the stacking. What’s next? You can only play the Wild Draw 4 Card IF you have no other cards to play? Is this how it’s really going to be?
It also begs the question, are the creators of UNO even parents?
Because I’ve got to tell you, since 1971 UNO has been providing parents everywhere with the opportunity to passive aggressively release all of our pent-up parenting frustrations. While it appears as though we are just playing a game, in reality we are letting all the little (and big) annoyances that drive us to the brink of insanity go.
***Inner voice***You liked spaghetti yesterday but hate it today?
“Pick up 2.”
***If I have to hear one more word about Minecraft my head is going to explode.
“Ha! Pick up 4!”
***I said No. How many times do I have to say it? No.No.No.No.No.
“Oh look, pick up 8!”
***Come on. Let’s go. We’re late. Please get your shoes on. Your shoes. Please. Get them on. On your feet. I need you to get your shoes on. FOR THE LOVE. GET YOUR SHOES ON!!
“Oooh, pick up 10.”
[adsanity id=”35666″ align=”aligncenter”/]***Why are there dirty socks on the counter? Why?
“Bummer, looks like you’re up to 12.”
***Are you seriously rolling your eyes at me right now?
“Oh, so sorry, honey. It was the only card I had. Pick up 16.”
And that, dear friends, is how it’s played. So no, I will NOT be following your stupid rule, UNO. I will continue happily living the lie I have been living for years. As will my children. Because this “rule” will forever remain a secret between you and me.
House rules.
