Toddler Isabel Sutton stunned her family friends and neighbors late Tuesday afternoon by issuing a request that she did not deem life threateningly urgent. The demand for juice and crackers came at 4:36 p.m. at only 64 decibels and was totally devoid of her habitual hysteria.
Her mother, Ellen Sutton of Rosenberg, Texas has been recovering from the shock at Methodist Hospital in the Houston Medical Center.
[adsanity id=”35664″ align=”aligncenter”/]“I just couldn’t believe it!” Sutton said of the incident. “Normally when Isabel wants juice, she requires that it be delivered within three seconds. Otherwise her noise level greatly distresses the neighbor’s pets. The fact that she was willing to wait eight seconds for the juice rather than just three has been a complete shock to my system.”
Sutton continued by saying that she had asked Isabel if she was sure she would be able to wait the additional three seconds. “She assured me that she would be fine. I had to call my husband and ask him to come home from work! This has never happened in our family before.”
[adsanity id=”35665″ align=”aligncenter”/]Her two older sisters, Elaine and Martha, remain mystified. “No one told us that toddlers were capable of waiting,” they told reporters shortly after the event. “We are used to her becoming extremely distraught if all requests aren’t filled immediately. I’m not sure what we will do with the extra time if she ever makes another non-urgent request.”
Elaine and Martha’s teachers were impressed, yet concerned. “The girls came in this morning buzzing with excitement. They were discussing what they would do with the extra seconds afforded to them if their sister ever issues another non-urgent request. The other teachers and I are just afraid that they don’t realize what a miracle this really was. They may end up quite disappointed the next time their sister wants juice.”
[adsanity id=”35666″ align=”aligncenter”/]Meanwhile, Isabel’s mother Ellen is recovering nicely. Doctors say she is in no further danger, and they expect to release her later this evening. “I know it will be difficult for me to return to life as usual after this, but my husband and children are depending on me to make a full recovery.”
