Netflix Warns Internet Halfwits About Doing ‘Bird Box’ Challenge

Forget doing the Tide pod challenge or Drake’s viral dance. The Internet’s newest trend involves wearing a blindfold and walking around aimlessly.

If you haven’t seen or heard of Bird Box yet—Netflix’s new movie about a mother who shields herself and her children from an apocalyptic force that kills you if you see it by covering their eyes with blindfolds—you probably won’t appreciate the absurdity of the ‘Bird Box’ Challenge.

Honestly, even if you have seen the movie, it’s hard to watch ordinary people try to recreate Sandra Bullock’s fearless character online without cringing.

Why? Because it’s only a matter of time before some jackass trips over a concrete parking block and ends up in the hospital after getting hit by a car.

In fact, the new viral sensation has sparked so much controversy that Netflix officials issued a warning on Twitter advising Bird Box fans to proceed with caution while blindfolded.

“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” they wrote. “We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.”

But, unlike Bullock’s pretend children who fear the unknown and abide by their mother’s wishes, those posting videos of themselves—walking the streets wearing blindfolds, bumping into shit and falling all over the place—don’t seem to care what Netflix has to say.

Take this guy, for example, who thought it would be a good idea to RUN down a busy New York sidewalk during the challenge. Boy, was HE ever wrong.

And what about this kid, who came dangerously close to getting injured when his hoverboard plowed into a living room table, knocking a lamp to the floor?

Good thing there was a grown up nearby in case someone needed to call 911.

Are you ready to meet the father of the year?

Here you see a blindfolded man, presumably Dad, running around his kitchen and giggling like a schoolgirl while holding hands with two kids who are also blindfolded, one of which is a toddler.

When he runs into another room, pulling them both by their hands, the toddler comes face-to-face with drywall.

And the list of viral fame-chasing fools goes on, despite warnings and common sense.

Welcome to 2019. It’s all downhill from here.
