Did you grow up in the 90s? Does your heart melt a little when you think about gel pens, Eureka’s Castle, and your coveted collection of jeweled trolls? Get ready to take a trip down memory lane with these throwback products that pay tribute to our carefree days and recently graced our wish lists.
1. Totes Cool, Dude
Scrunchies and glitter spray? This bag highlights the beauty essentials of a 90s girl.
2. Lisa Frank ‘til the Day I Die
Back to school shopping was almost as exciting as Christmas Day because you knew you got to pick out some fresh new Lisa Frank notebooks and folders. We were all about those majestic diving dolphins.
3. Friendship Bracelets
If you didn’t receive a friendship bracelet, you were basically an outcast, an untouchable. The thickness of your stack of friendship bracelets was an indication of your rank in the popularity hierarchy. I had, like, two. It’s fine. I’m fine.
4. Jelly Sandals
You don’t know real pain until you’ve gotten a rock stuck in your jelly sandals. Labor pains don’t even compare to that level of agony. And who are we kidding? These things cut our feet, but they were adorable and we loved them. This right here was our first lesson in beauty is pain.
5. Polaroids
Polaroids were our Instagram. Minus the fabulous filters. You just shot a pic and shook it nervously, hoping you didn’t look like a pile of garbage. Those minutes of anticipation were agonizing.
6. Floppy Disk Drink Coasters
These made you feel so important, and you guarded the metal part with your freaking life. Bring floppy joy back into your life with these silicone drink coasters.
7. Cassette Tape Cosmetic Bag
You sat there next to your giant FM radio and waited for each perfect song to come on so you could hit record. You may have even called in to the radio station a million times to request your favorite jam. And you didn’t just make a mixtape for a friend; you bore your soul.
8. Scary Stories vs. Goosebumps
I feel like you were either team Scary Stories or team Goosebumps. Maybe that was just me. I was definitely partial to Scary Stories books. Books were our Netflix — be it Babysitter’s Club, Goosebumps, or Scary Stories, you sat there and binge read.
9. 90s R&B or Bust
Slow dance with me to our favorite R&B jam so I know it’s real. Ah, young love. Getting asked to dance to a dank R&B jam was as romantic as it got. You were like a R&B Disney Princess at the castle ball. KC & JoJo were your soulmates.
10. Tamagotchi
You begged and begged and begged your parents for this thing. Tamagotchi was your firstborn. You carried it with you everywhere and were heartbroken when it died. Now you can get a second chance. Ignore your actual child for a tiny, digital creature.
11. As If!
Cher was your idol even if you didn’t want to admit it. You watched this movie every day and have every line pretty much memorized. We fantasized about a closet like Cher’s and picked up some amazing phrases from Clueless.
12. Chokers
You had one of these and you wore it every day. Apparently these are making a comeback. *pets my choker I haven’t taken off since middle school*
13. The First Cell Phone
Amaze your children with this classic looking cell-phone-shaped cover for your new phone. 90s girls were some of the first to witness the birth of cell phones. Before that our parents used us to screen their phone calls, had panic attacks as our friends 3-way called our crushes while we were on mute, and had to actually answer the phone to find out who was calling.
14. D.A.R.E
Did you take the D.A.R.E pledge? Damn right, you did. And you were serious about it, too. You would do anything for some D.A.R.E swag. Your sole purpose in life was to keep kids off drugs.
15. BFFs
Making someone your best friend was like making someone your wife. These were your engagement rings. You couldn’t have more than one best friend. If you had a best friend and started spending more time with a new pal, you had to break up with your current best friend. You wore your mall-jewelry-store best friend necklaces with pride.
Thanks for getting all nostalgic with us. I feel so close to you, and I’ll iron your hair if you iron mine?
