Could Millennials Survive in the 90’s? MTV Is Finding Out on ’90’s House.’

MTV, the television channel that used to play music videos but is now a continuous loop of shows about teenagers making poor decisions, is kicking it old school with its new show 90’s House.

Hosted by Lance Bass and Christina Milian, 90’s House is sort of a Real World: Time Machine Edition. Twelve millennial strangers are picked to live in a house and find out what happens when people stop looking at their smartphones and start actually talking to each other.

From MTV’s website:

90’s House is a competition show that places 12 millennial housemates in a 90’s inspired house and forces the young adults to officially unplug their modern-day devices and party like it’s 1990. With only the technology, catch phrases and fashion from that decade, each episode opponents will face elimination by competing in various 90’s themed challenges. The raddest contestant will win $90K, a Mazda Miata and tickets for two on board the Ship-Hop I Love the 90’s Cruise.

I have to admit, this show makes me want my MTV. I’d like to watch a bunch of twenty-somethings try to figure out how to adult without Google at their fingertips. (I don’t even think my middle-aged ass could do that at this point.)

Questions I have about 90’s House:

-How long will it take for the housemates to figure out how disposable cameras work? Will they have one person take a photo of the group, or will they still insist on squishing together and taking a crappy selfie-style picture?

-Will the ladies be forced to tweeze their eyebrows pencil-thin and wear brown lipstick?

-Will there be VHS copies of Friends and Seinfeld so they can engage in Thursday night must-see TV?

-Most importantly, will the house be well stocked with Zima?

90’s House airs Tuesday nights on MTV. You can catch the first episode here.
