Chris Pratt is eating humble pie, and it actually tastes quite good.
Following a video post on Instagram in which the hunky Guardians of the Galaxy star insisted followers turn up the volume on their devices rather than simply read the subtitles in order to get the full experience, members of the deaf community pointed out that such a remark is exclusionary and, simply put, offensive to suggest that only those who can hear are able to experience something to its fullest potential.
Pratt took comments about his gaffe to heart, reports Upworthy, and took swift action to rectify his wrongdoing.
In another post to Instagram, Pratt is seen signing his apology and, despite a few errors, as noted by some commenters, appears 100 percent sincere.
Pratt’s apology reads, in part:
I know some of you are going to say, “Hey! Chris only apologized because his publicist made him!” Well. That is not the case.
I am doing this because I’m actually really sorry. Apologies are powerful. I don’t dole them out Willy-Nilly. This is one of those moments where I screwed up and here’s me begging your pardon.
I have people in my life who are hearing-impaired, and the last thing in the world I would want to do is offend them or anybody who suffers from hearing loss or any other disability. So truly from the bottom of my heart I apologize. Thanks for pointing this out to me.
I hope you accept my apology.
Not only is he funny and sexy, friends, but he is also kind-hearted and genuine. *swoon*
We all make mistakes. Even I, with my own hearing-impaired and deaf family members and disabled son, make similar, insensitive errors from time to time without thinking about or even realizing how they might impact others. It’s ignorance and able-ism at its best, and I don’t mean that disparagingly.
I simply mean that we all have a lot to learn about this world and each other, and it is instances such as this that pave the way to enlightenment. What matters is that, when we do make mistakes, we open ourselves up to listening and understanding and pledge to do and be better in the future.
Chris Pratt, you are a gentleman and a scholar. Well, definitely a gentleman (don’t know much about your scholarly pursuits). Thank you for being an example of humility, kindness, and willingness to learn.
You’ve won our hearts again, sir. Not that we weren’t already smitten.
