Are You My Mom Friend?

A story of a lonely mom, willing to travel to the ends of the earth in search of a mom friend. Not the nanny. Or a childless woman. A mom friend.

By Rebecca Lang of Becky::Rebecca

A new mother sat in her house.

Her little baby cried.

“I must find someone who can relate!” she said.

Inside her house, she got online and scrolled and scrolled and scrolled.

Except, she was still lonely and bored.

“Where is my mom friend?” she said.

She did not know of anyone.

“I will go and look for her,” she said.

Out of the house she went.

Yoga pants.

Mom bun.

Spit-up stains.

Clueless.

The new mama felt quite shy.

But she used to talk to adults!

“Now I will go and find my mom friend,” she said.

Are you my mom friend?” the new mom asked the woman at the playground.

The woman just looked and looked at her phone. She did not say a thing.

“Are you my mom friend?” the new mom asked a woman on her way to work.

“No,” said the woman going to work.

“Are you my mom friend?” the new mom asked a nanny.

“I am not your mom friend. I am a nanny,” said the nanny.

“Are you my mom friend?” the new mom asked her childless friend.

“How could I be your mom friend?” said the childless friend. “I think you’re lame now.”

The new mom stopped to think.

The woman at the playground and woman going to work were not her mom friends.

The nanny and her old friend were not her mom friends.

I have a mom friend,” said the new mom.” I know I do. I will find her. I will. I WILL!”

Just then the new mom saw a big group of mothers.

You are my mom friends!” she said.

The mom group scoffed.

“Oh, no!” said the new mom.

“You are not my mom friends.

You are a scary group of moms!”

The mom group kept on talking about their babies, babies, babies.

Then something happened.

The new mom realized she wanted to talk about more than just that.

The new mom felt defeated!

Just then, a mom friend appeared, also looking lonely and tired and clueless.

“I know who you are,” said the new mom.

You are not ignoring me or going to work or judging me behind my back. You are not a nanny or a group of women I wouldn’t want to be friends with if we didn’t have kids the same age.

You are a new mother, too, and you are my mom friend!”
