An American Princess! Prince Harry Proposes to Meghan Markle

Prince Harry announced his engagement to American actress, Meghan Markle, today, and approximately 150 million people just squealed in unison with delight (I’m accounting for the female half of the American population).

An American princes, you guys! It’s really happening!

Markle is best known for her role in the hit TV show, Suits. But for the past couple of years, she has been in the tabloids as Harry’s beloved girlfriend, and now fiancé!

The couple posed for pictures outside of Kensington Palace today, after which royals and politicians alike offered their congratulations.

Markle will not only be the first American to marry a direct line to the British throne, but she will also be the first biracial princess in UK history.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I was glued to the TV when Diana married Charles, and when Kate married Will. There is just something about a royal wedding that gets us all aflutter. It probably has something to do with the fact that our country is obsessed with Disney princesses. With Kate, we all got our hopes up that a real prince could marry a “commoner.” (I use that term loosely, since she is from a very rich, upper-class, British family.)

And now, with Markle, we “American Yanks” may stand a chance at catching the royal eye. (You know, as long as we’re gorgeous and famous and have a sparkling personality–minor details.)

The two will wed next spring. Sources speculate that the wedding will occur sometime in March so that Princess Kate can participate before giving birth to her third  child. In keeping with tradition, the ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I am so delighted for Meghan Markle. I’m sure she’ll make a beautiful bride, and I can’t wait to see what their babies look like.
