Ahh, adulting. Remember when we couldn’t wait to grow up? Yeah. It was all a sham.
Now that we’ve finally arrived, we realize just how difficult actual adulting is. From having to pay bills to wishing we could do anything but go into work, adulting is not only overrated; it’s downright cruel.
I remember thinking as a kid how easy my parents must have it. There was no way, in my mind, work could be anywhere near as difficult and exhausting as school, and I was flat out resentful of the fact that my parents could stay up as late as they wanted, go anywhere without permission, and do anything without having to answer to a soul.
My, how wrong I was.
Not only can you NOT go anywhere or do anything (hello, offspring, I’m looking at you and your constant demands to be fed and cared for and stuff), but you also most certainly cannot stay up late without repercussions (sleep deprivation is a serious problem). Never mind the fact that staying up late these days is less about fun-filled partying and more about the aches and pains of aging.
Sometimes I think I would give anything to go back to those carefree days of childhood. Of course, then I wouldn’t get to enjoy the hilarity these Twitter users provide about the perils of getting older.
