With people stuck inside due to Covid-19, there’s been an influx of feel-good news stories showcasing how nature is “reclaiming” spaces that were constantly disrupted before due to human activity. Stories of dolphins in canals, and goats wandering the streets are just a couple of examples of these sorts of trending stories, along with visuals of reduced pollution that has come along with Covid quarantine.
Although these make for great viral stories, the truth is that some of them might be exaggerated or even fabricated. There is undoubtedly a difference based on the sheer amount of people staying home and interruptions to business, however, like most things online, there’s a lot of “too good to be true” news that pops up just to tug heartstrings or gain retweets. Some things just make for a good viral story.
However, along with this a new joke format was born. Twitter users have been regaling us with tales of how “nature is healing, we are the virus,” featuring all manner of hilarious ridiculousness. What started as a way to share heartwarming stories of Nature triumphing in the absence of human activity has become a new favorite meme. And we are SUPER here for it.
