Buckle Up Because ‘The Magic School Bus’ Is Coming Back!

Netflix has ordered new episodes of the beloved children’s series “The Magic School Bus,” which will begin airing soon.

Those of us who grew up in the 1990s remember when PBS brought us Joanna Cole’s stories in animated form. The lead character, school teacher Valerie Frizzle, took her class on magical field trips in her shrinking school bus. During those lessons, students would defy gravity and the space-time continuum to travel right into the subject matter they were studying.

The 90s adaptation aptly cast Lily Tomlin as the lead. Rumor has it she may resume her role as the quirky-yet-lovable teacher.

No joke, I JUST read the Magic School Bus “Inside the Human Body” book to my kid today, and she loved it. Watching her get excited about science made me want to give the author a high five.

My daughter learned about villi and macrophages and the reason the heart has four chambers. She understood why blood is red and how food gets into our cells. The kid may only be three years old, but she followed the biology lesson with keen interest.

Of course, it didn’t hurt that the zany ginger pedagogue on the pages sported a wild costume change in every scene.

A tadpole skirt.

An eyeball jumpsuit.

Some spacecraft trousers.

Ms. Frizzle, is that a rocket ship in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?

Spoiler: It’s a rocket ship. The Magic School Bus kids are way too young for dick jokes, but let me tell you, if anyone could explain the ups and downs of puberty, it would be one V. Frizzle.

Picture it…

The school bus would shrink down to the size of an ant and drive around in a jungle of pubes. Then “The Frizz” would explain why Arnold needs to start washing his nether regions due to increased perspiration in his newly-formed terminal hair follicles.

Ok, it’s doubtful Netflix will produce a Magic School Bus sex education episode, but I will Frizz for shizz be watching either way.
