I’m a teacher, and it’s a tough gig, y’all. But this post isn’t about that. This post is about how the smallest of gestures can make a career. YES, A CAREER.
And Twitter user @mainey_maine knows all about that.
On April 24, he posted a picture of a heartfelt letter a student left for him on his desk. Not only did it get him right in the feels, but it also doused the whole internet in buckets of sunshine.

The letter reads:
To Mr J,
Thank you for being a awesome teacher and for being amazing! This school year was so fun and I enjoyed it because of you. I wish more teachers was like you. I will never forget you. I look at you like my dad. I never met my real dad but it okay because you treat me like I’m your son. You make me so happy. Always feeding me when I am hungry and hug me when I am sad. I will never forget you Mr. J. I love you and I will never forget about you!

Ask any teacher, and s/he will say it’s little nuggets like this that keep us in the profession.
Of all the gifts I receive, it’s the thank you notes and other words of gratitude that bring me the most joy. That’s why they now line my bulletin board and help me keep sight of what’s truly important.
As teachers, our goal is to impact lives for the better. If we can reach just one student per year, we’ve done our job.
Looks like Mr. J has reached that goal.
Oh, and Markus: we’re willing to bet Mr. J won’t ever forget about you, either.
