‘Hot Flash’: A New App for Menopausal Women

By Marlene Kern Fischer of Thoughts From Aisle Four

After reading about an app called Peanut which connects moms “who missed out on Tinder” with other new moms, a middle-aged woman had an idea for an app which brings together menopausal women.

The 53-year-old mother of three said she realized that women in her age group missed out on “Tinder, Peanut, and every other app out there. I invented Hot Flash so that we, too, can experience online bonding and virtual friendship.”

The app is somewhat similar to Peanut and Tinder in that the user inputs relevant data in the hope of meeting someone with the same menopausal symptoms. Insomnia? Check. Hormonal Mood Swings? Check. Weight gain? Considering a hysterectomy? Hot Flashes? Check, check and check.

The app inventor explained, “The more data that is added, the more likely you are to find someone in the same menopausal hell. The one glitch is that it’s kind of hard for cranky people to keep an open mind. We suggest waiting until a rage dip before trying to find a match.”

The app encourages women who match to meet in person for drinks or laser hair removal.

The woman further explained that there is such a myriad of manifestations which accompany menopause that even a close girlfriend may not understand what their “bestie” is going through. She pointed out that she, herself, was still getting her period while most of her friends had moved on.

“There are just so many stages of menopause that it’s a wonderful thing to be able to find someone in the same boat as you. The app, which was funded on Kickstarter in record time between 3:00 a.m. Eastern and Pacific times on February 15, is recommended by the American Gynecological Society and the majority of husbands who appreciate the idea that their wives are able to discuss their feelings and symptoms with others, thereby taking some of the pressure off them.”

One husband, who is a huge fan of the new app, said in whispered tones (so that his wife couldn’t hear him), “Honestly, I just don’t know what to say to my wife these days. This new app might save countless marriages.”

In one review of the app, a woman said, “I love the women I’ve met through Hot Flash, although I can’t remember their names or much about them.”

The new app is available on Apple devices and will soon be available on Android.
